I’ve read five books in the last two weeks—it’s the first time in years I’ve had enough free time to do that! (I mean really, who has enough free time to do that? Only a jobless college student on summer break.)
My latest recommendation for an engaging and charming summer read is Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. The book first came on my radar when I noticed University Chic was giving copies away to some lucky readers. Days later, I walked past a display at the library and it caught my eye.
I’m glad I picked it up. It’s the story of a girl who has to move across country following the death of her father, and the most cost-efficient way for her (and her mom’s car) to get from California to her family’s new home in Connecticut is a cross-country road-trip… with a complete [hot, college-aged male] stranger.
The original route her mom maps out is direct-but-dull, so Amy and Roger (that hot stranger) take the trip into their own hands and explore the country—and personal pursuits—on an “epic detour.” This isn’t great literature, but it is a sweet book with a lot of heart. If you’re looking for an entertaining read for poolside afternoons, this is a solid choice.
